چکیده

Abstract Background Robot-assisted thoracoscopic esophagectomy (RAMIE) is a precise and safe procedure with its advantages. On the other hand, RAMIE has several disadvantages. The lack of tactile function must be fully recognized, surgical procedures take characteristics into account. We examined whether findings obtained by intraoperative recurrent nerve monitoring (NIM) are useful in reducing laryngeal paralysis (RLNP) after RAMIE. Methods Overall, 81 cases through February 2023 were included study. NIM was performed 41 patients first term using combination continuous intermittent methods (NIM group). In subsequent 40 patients, not (non-NIM group) order to confirm learning effect shorten operation time. RLNP confirmed symptoms postoperative laryngoscopy. Clinical oncological factors short-term outcomes two groups compared. Results All occurred on left side. Six (14.6%) group had Grade 1 or higher RLNP. causes all found during thoracic manipulation; 4 over-traction RLN 2 crush injury robotic forceps. There significant decrease higher; (9.7%) 0 non-NIM (p = 0.04). group, there reduction operative time, total blood loss. Conclusion made us aware maneuvers that cause Although proficiency technique may have played role later period, avoidance risky due from thought contributed

Improving Voice Outcomes After Injury to the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve

Objectives: The present study aimed to determine the voice outcomes before and after the administration of voice therapy in patients who suffered an injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve after undergoing thyroidectomy. Methods: The sample consisted of 26 patients (2 males and 24 females) aged between 18 and 80 years (m=55±12) who experienced injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve fol...

Effect of recurrent laryngeal nerve identification technique in thyroidectomy on recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis and hypoparathyroidism.

OBJECTIVE To investigate whether the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) identification technique used in thyroidectomy affects RLN paralysis and hypoparathyroidism. DESIGN Patients were allocated into 2 groups according to the thyroidectomy technique used to identify the RLN: (1) superior-inferior direction, exploring the nerve where it enters the larynx, followed by superior pedicle ligation; a...

Causes of recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis.

OBJECTIVE Persistent hoarseness due to recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis (RLNP) reduces the quality of life unless it is adequately treated. This study examined the indications for phonosurgical intervention in patients with RLNP. MATERIALS AND METHODS The medical records of the Ehime University Hospital, Ehime, Japan, from October 1976 until December 1997 were reviewed retrospectively to i...
